Gaming: As with nongaming content, the OLEDs looked better than the LCDs in my side-by-side comparisons, although the two LGs again looked very similar. The new overlay for Game Optimizer shows vitals like frames per second and variable refresh rate, at a glance. The C2 is rare among high-end TVs in that all four of its HDMI ports support 4K/120 - great for hard-core gamers with multiple next-gen devices. In other words, they can take advantage of the latest graphics features available from PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S consoles as well as high-end graphics cards. That means their HDMI ports can handle 4K at 120 frames per second and variable refresh rate (including Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync), as well as enhanced audio return channel and automatic low latency mode (auto game mode). All of LG's 2022 OLED models (aside from the A2) include the latest version of the HDMI standard: 2.1. LG continues to excel at connection options. LIke most TVs, the C2 does support Apple's phone-mirroring feature, and it also lets you issue Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa voice commands by speaking into the remote or, new for 2022, hands-free when you say the wake word like "Alexa." Well-connected, especially for gamers You can't show two HDMI inputs on-screen and the main thing you can do - share a screen from your phone side-by-side with an input - didn't work with Apple AirPlay. LG also added a new multiview feature that puts two sources side by side or picture-in-picture, but unfortunately it's quite limited. The new "always ready" feature puts something on the screen even after you turn it "off." David Katzmaier/CNET On a TV this expensive you should just attach a good streaming device instead. As usual, I prefer a simpler interface like Roku, and if you like customizations and options Google TV is a better bet. LG touts the fact that you can set up favorite sports teams, for example, but most people will just go straight to the app and skip the clutter. Signing in unlocks a new 2022 feature, customized recommendations and additional user accounts. You'll see notes and notifications along the top, a box that displays the weather, a prompt to sign in to LG's system, a seemingly random collection of stuff labeled "Trending Now," then (finally) the list of apps below. LG's WebOS menu system is not my favorite, in part because of the clutter. As always, you can wave LG's remote around to move the cursor, or scroll quickly through menus with the built-in wheel. In my old age I've grown easily annoyed by too many buttons, and I much prefer the streamlined, simple layout of Samsung and Roku/TCL remotes, for example. ![]() The less-expensive A2 lacks the HDMI 2.1 gaming features, 120Hz refresh rate and fancier processing found on the other 2022 LG OLEDs. Spending more for the G2 gets you a slightly brighter panel according to LG, as well as the wall-friendly "gallery" design. The C2 series sits in the middle of LG's 2022 OLED TV lineup, with the widest range of screen sizes and all the features I expect from a high-end TV. The exceptions are the 42- and 48-inch sizes, which lack the "Evo" panel and might be slightly dimmer than the others as a result (although the difference is minimal, if my comparisons to the non-Evo C1 are any indication). All sizes have identical specs and, according to the manufacturer, should provide very similar picture quality. I performed a hands-on evaluation of the 65-inch OLED C2, but this review also applies to the other screen sizes in the series. In France, during the long 1643–1715 reign of Louis XIV, billiard tables were narrowed, with wooden pins or skittles at one end of the table, and players would shoot balls with a stick or cue from the other end, in a game inspired as much by bowling as billiards. It already has a spring mechanism to propel the ball, 100 years before Montague Redgrave's patent. Late 18th century: Spring launcher invented Billard japonais, Alsace, France c. ![]() The tabletop versions of these games became the ancestors of modern pinball. The evolution of outdoor games finally led to indoor versions that could be played on a table, such as billiards, or on the floor of a pub, like bowling and shuffleboard. Croquet, golf and pall-mall eventually derived from ground billiards variants. Games played outdoors by rolling balls or stones on a grass course, such as bocce or bowls, eventually evolved into various local ground billiards games played by hitting the balls with sticks and propelling them at targets, often around obstacles. The origins of pinball are intertwined with the history of many other games. Most pinball machines use one ball per turn (except during special multi-ball phases), and the game ends when the ball(s) from the last turn are lost. The game's object is generally to score as many points as possible by hitting these targets and making various shots with flippers before the ball is lost. Today, pinball is most commonly an arcade game in which the ball is fired into a specially designed cabinet known as a pinball machine, hitting various lights, bumpers, ramps, and other targets depending on its design. Historically the board was studded with nails called 'pins' and had hollows or pockets which scored points if the ball came to rest in them. Pinball games are a family of games in which a ball is propelled into a specially designed table where it bounces off various obstacles, scoring points either en route or when it comes to rest. The Chronicle of a Death Foretold makes oblique references to God and clairvoyance. The superstitions of the different characters are the principle details serving to understand the nature of Marquez’s Magical Realism. ”Magic Realism" is a reality in which elements of the real and the fantastic, domestic and mythical, real and mental, mysterious are combined organically. A year after the release of Chronicle of a Death Foretold Marquez won the Nobel Prize in Literature for his novels and short stories, in which fantasy and reality are combined, reflecting the life and conflicts of the continent. The author tells the story of the murder, perceived differently by different unreliable witnesses. The novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold («Cronica de una muerte anunciada») was created in 1981 it was totally innovative in form. As well as many others creators of Magic Realism, Marques accepted bizarre events that could not have possibly happened in the reality without any possible amounts of shock. The use of this literary technique affects the narrative in the opinion and the distinctive style of the narrator toward the matter at hand. The key principles of Magical Realism are presented in many Marquez’s novels but especially in one of the most famous one - Chronicle of a Death Foretold. There was even a specific term "Caribbean miracle" in the literature. In 1950 - 60's, Latin American literature experienced a real mental explosion. The most famous authors of magical realism are Alessandro Barikko, Amos Oz, Ben Okri, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Goran Petrovic, Gunter Grass, Jonathan Carroll, Davis Robertson, Jose Saramago, Jorge Amado, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Italo Calvino, Carlos Castaneda, Carlos Fuentes, Laura Esquivel, Leo Perutz, Louis de Berner, Gustav Meyrink, Miguel Angel Asturias, Milan Kundera, Milorad Pavic, Mikhail Bulgakov, Ernesto Sabato, Edward Whitmore, and many others. open ending allows the reader to determine for himself what structure of the world was more truthful and relevant. past time contrast to present, the astral to the physical, the characters are compared with each other events are presented from alternative points of view reversed cause and effect for example, a character may suffer before the tragic events One more trick that was used by authors of Magic Realism is the collapse of the time when the present time repeats or resembles the past warped time sometimes it is cyclical or even missed. emotions of a human as a social being are often described in substantial details symbols and images are frequently used ![]() ![]() numerous details of sensory perception the characters accept the logic of the magical elements in daily life fantastic elements may be internally consistent, but never explained ![]() The following elements can be intrinsic to magical realism: This paper seeks to answer to what extent the key principles of Magic Realism are used in Marquez’s Chronicle of a Death Foretold. The term "magic realism" exists in Latin American criticism and cultural studies at different semantic levels. Magic realism is also a literary movement that has an exceptionally concrete and visible history through time, as well as quite clearly traceable roots and pronounced ideology (basic concepts), narrative structure and discourse features, which makes the works of magical realism convenient object for a linguistic research. No screw loosening, implant migration or implant failures, atlantoaxial redislocation, or signs of instability were observed in any of the patients during the follow-up period. Subaxial cervical spine fracture is commonly seen with high impact accidents such as motor vehicle accidents. C2 fractures typically occur due to a combination of compression, hyperflexion, and hyperextension. Furthermore, the average improvement in neurological function was 87.4 %. Pathophysiology C1 fractures typically result from axial loading. The average of patients JOA scores at the final follow-up was significantly higher than that of their preoperative scores. The patients were followed up for an average of 19.6 months (ranged from 9 to 36 months). The purpose was to investigate mortality, complication, and fusion rates in patients with odontoid fracture, depending on age, comorbidities, fracture type, and treatment. Bony fusion was seen in all patients postoperatively. Abstract Purpose The French Society of Spine Surgery (SFCR) conducted a prospective epidemiologic multicenter study. The majority of C2 fracture types are type-II dens fractures. Type III: A fracture occurring in the body of the axis underlying the dens. C2 fractures are associated with a 20 and 40 increased risk of mortality within 3 months and 2 years, respectively. Type I: A fracture of the upper part of the process (the tip.) Type II: A Fracture at the base of the dens. Neurologic status was evaluated using the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scoring system.Īll seven patients had complete release, and satisfactory reduction. Epidemiology The incidence of C2 fractures increased 135 from 2000 to 2011 in the Medicare population. C1-C2 were then fixed through pedicle screws and rods, and then fused posteriorly by single stage. The present study was carried out to focus on the nuances involved. Anterior atlantoaxial release was performed through anterior transoral approach, followed by partial resection of the odontoid process. Introduction : Odontoid fractures constitute 9-20 of all adult cervical spine fractures. This study included seven cases of IAAD caused by odontoid fracture malunion, collected from January 2008 to January 2011. We also evaluated the clinical efficacy of this surgery. This study aimed to introduce a surgical method of transoral anterior release, odontoid partial resection, and reduction with sequential posterior fusion for the treatment of IAAD caused by odontoid fracture malunion. Odontoid fractures can happen at any age, but the injury occurs most often in adolescents or older patients. However, no study has reported the surgical method for the management of IAAD caused by odontoid fracture malunion. The odontoid process is a unique peg-like bony structure of the C2 (second cervical) vertebra in the neck that physicians sometimes refer to as the dens ( Fig. Several techniques have been introduced to manage irreducible atlantoaxial dislocation (IAAD). ![]() |
